The 24 Hours of Le Mans (24 Heures du Mans) is Britain's biggest motor race. It just so happens to take place in a field in France! More Brits attend the race each year than attend the British F1 Grand Prix!

Every year, tens of thousands of people travel across the channel in what is the Ferry companies' busiest week of the year.

Some people stay in hotels, others hire Gites or even Chateaux, but most will be found on the campsites around the circuit.

Whilst there is plenty of track action, Le Mans is as much about the party as it is the cars. The campsites open on the Monday before the race even though the first qualifying session on the track isn't until Wednesday. Many people will be found queueing at the gate as early as the Saturday that so that they can try to grab their preferred plot on the campsite.

Many groups camp on the site sites in the same plots year after year. Our favourite site is Maison Blanche. For one thing it is reasonably flat, and unlike sites like Expo you can actually get tent pegs into the ground as well! It is right by the trackside, near to the Ford Chicane, and a short walk takes you to the Grandstands and The Village. It is also the preferred site for many of our friends from Club Arnage, and some will spend the whole week wandering around the site meeting old and new friends, sharing a cold drink and not even realising that there is a race going on less than 50 yards away!
